We are asked to write the reason why we are going on the World Race. This question made me nervous to answer because my answer didn’t seem good enough or big enough or holy enough. I didn’t hear a whisper in the night that sounded like “World Race.” Some random person didn’t walk up to me and tell me that God sent them. My honest answer is far more simple than that: he didn’t say no. In regards to going on the World Race God’s non-resistance answer is enough for me. The reason being, I was called to world missions my freshman year of college at my very first Christian conference before I had even made the decision to become a Christian. I was probably truly called to missions upon my birth. I realized a long time ago, God doesn’t have to tell me to go, He just has to tell me no.
This past year upon my college graduation I wanted to immediately become a World Missionary, but He told me to wait. I gave Him a year. This year whenever I would try to think about going with this organization or that I either applied and was denied or for some reason it just didn’t sound good to me. At the very beginning of this “God-Wait-Year” I was on a different mission trip in Romania when a friend told me about her experience in the World Race. I for some reason (I’m pretty sure God has something to do with it) pushed that away to await for a divine voice to direct my very course. I was making this decision out to be more complicated than it needed to be. God is truly more simple when you’re not looking to make things complex. A friend once told me that working with God looks a lot like peace and joy. Go where there is need and find peace and joy in that. So at the end of my “God-Wait-Year” I remembered the World Race. Seemingly, out of nowhere, it sounded fun and exciting to me. It sounded like the thing I’ve been looking for this entire year of trying multiple different types of missionary work all over the World. Literally, this race was made for me. I love people and want to help them in whatever way I can while traveling. I will always want to grow and learn more about God and His people, it is an endless fascination to me. I get to meet new friends and grow closer to my church at large. Sign me up, God hasn’t told me no so I’m taking that as a “go”.
